[S1E3] The Caretaker
Charles visits Chapelwaite's old caretaker, Mrs. Cloris, to inquire more about the nature of Stephen's death, determined to get to the bottom of his cousin's demise, and why his corpse would go missing. The caretaker recalls finding Stephen's daughter, Marcella, after her fatal fall down Chapelwaite's cellar stairs, a pair of scissors piercing her throat. Beside Marcella's body was Stephen himself, having hanged himself immediately after coming upon his beloved daughter. After burying his son and granddaughter, Stephen's father Philip then committed suicide as well, walking into the ocean; his body was never recovered. Given that Cloris was the only person to see Philip die, and the first to find Stephen and Marcella's bodies, Charles is skeptical of her account, and shares that he discovered Stephen's coffin empty. He then accuses Cloris of knowing Stephen's true whereabouts.
Carlotta has quite the sinister plan cooking. She sits down with long-time caretaker Delphine (Deneen Tyler) and praises her for her loyalty to the Mayfairs for over 40 years. (Remember, Delphine is the one who looked the other way and let Deirdre escape.) Carlotta lies and says that Deirdre left the necklace to Delphine, and requests she put it on. Though she feels unworthy to wear such a prized heirloom, she puts it on and heads to the cellar to grab something as Carlotta requested. But, turns out, Carlotta is full of it, and really sent Delphine to the cellar with the necklace as punishment for letting Deirdre out of her sight. If Lasher is now bound to Delphine, then he will no longer be the Mayfairs' problem.

It has been shown in Season 4, that Claudia is still a potential successor to Mrs. Frederic. She has the ability to sense the birth of an artifact and has been made aware that while she can have a family, she may outlive them. In the episode "Instinct", Claudia admits that she wants to become the new caretaker of the warehouse, and was worried that if the Regents didn't approve of her, she wouldn't get the chance. However, at the end of the episode, she thought she smelled apples, a sign that Cataraunga said was the Warehouse approving an agent.
